This example demonstrates how you can bind jqGrid for ASP.NET MVC to a Linq-2-Sql generated data model with 1,000,000 rows. The grid automatically takes care of

- paging
- sorting
- searching/filtering

The only thing you need to do is to point the data model to use. The performance of the grid is spectacular and does not depend on the number of rows in the grid.

You can also note how we have embedded search controls on the top of the grid - we have integrated DatePicker for OrderDate, dropdowns for Freight and CustomerID, and AutoComplete control for the ShipName

Settings search control is very easy - just declare them on the page and set the SearchType enumeration for the respective columns to the type of the control and SearchControlID to the ID of the respective control in the View.

Setting the JQGridColumn.ShowColumnMenu to true will show a menu in the header of the column with the most common actions (sorting, filtering, grouping, hide, show) for that column.

Switch theme:

Theming is based on the very popular jQuery ThemeRoller standard. This is the same theming mechanism used by jQuery UI and is now a de-facto standard for jQuery based components. The benefits of using ThemeRoller are huge. We can offer a big set of ready to use themes created by professional designers, including Windows-like themes (Redmond), Apple-like theme (Cupertino), etc. In addition to that any jQuery UI controls on the same page will pick the same theme.

Last, but not least, you can always roll your own ThemeRoller theme, using the superb Theme Editor

To use a theme, simply reference 2 Css files in your Html <head> section - the ThemeRoller theme you wish to use, and the jqGrid own ThemeRoller Css file. For example (Redmond theme):
